Current Position and Past Experience
Soma Chakrabarti is the Director of Continuing Studies at the University of Delaware, a role she stepped into in 2014. Prior to this, she was the Director of the Center for Engineering and Interdisciplinary Professional Education (CEIPE) and the Associate Director of Continuing Education at the University of Kansas. This followed six years as the Program Director of the Aerospace Short Course Program at the same institution.

Chakrabarti was the president and chief executive officer of BioComp Systems, Inc., a University of Kansas spin-off, where she also served as the principal investigator of two National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research Phase I and Phase II grants which developed a near-commercial quality prototype of a true 3-D display system for biomedical visualization.

She has taught chemical engineering and was an associate research engineer in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, and a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, all at the University of Kansas.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Chakrabarti earned her M-Tech and B-Tech in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calcutta In 1984. In 1991 she earned her PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
