Current Position and Past Experience
Wayne Smutz is the Dean of Continuing Education and Extension at UCLA. Prior to this, Smutz served as the associate vice president for academic outreach and executive director of the World Campus at Penn State, where he served for over thirty years. During his time at Penn State, Smutz served in roles related to credit and non-credit program development, needs assessment, conferencing, marketing and eLearning.

An active member of professional associations, Dr. Smutz serves on the boards of Sloan C and the American Distance Education Consortium and was elected to begin serving on the the Board of UPCEA in April 2014.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Smutz holds a Ph.D. in higher education and an M.A. in political theory from Penn State. He received a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. He was the 2011 Sloan C award winner for Individual Achievement in Online Learning for his work in advocating for adult learners.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
He and his wife Linda have five children.
