Current Position and Past Experience
Devora Shamah has been with the
Gateway to College National Network since 2009 and has concurrently served as an instructor in Teaching and Counseling Education at Oregon State University. At Gateway to College National Network she is currently the Senior Manager of Research and leads research efforts that assist Gateway to College Programs improve their practice and implement evidence-informed practices. Shamah is currently leading a two-year project funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York that focuses on understanding the interventions that support the students who are struggling the most to succeed in earning a high school diploma.
Prior to working at Gateway to College National Network, Shamah taught in elementary and middle schools for 10 years in the Portland area and served as the project coordinator on a National Science Foundation G-K12 grant at Oregon State University that connected science students with rural K-12 classrooms.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Shamah earned her MST in Education from the University of Chicago in 1993. She earned her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from Oregon State University in 2009. She was awarded an AAUW American Fellowship in 2008 from the Association of American University Women. Shamah was also the recipient of the 2007 Youth Purpose Research Award from Stanford University.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
In her free time Shamah spends time with her dog, exploring neighborhoods. She enjoys knitting and hopes to finally finish the many projects currently in her knitting basket this winter.
