Current Position and Past Experience
Romando Nash is currently Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at Washington State University (WSU) and is responsible for the administrative oversite of 30 departments consisting of approximately 600 full and part time staff members and 3000 student workers. He has been in the position since April 2024. Prior to his position at WSU, he served as the Associate Vice President for Student Life Services at the University of Nevada Reno where he provided leadership for a portfolio focused on supporting the student and campus experience through programs ranging from residential life to cultural diversity and is committed to developing and maintaining a healthy learning environment for all students at the University.
Other positions held by Romando include serving as the Associate Vice President for Student Services at San Jose State University; Associate Dean of Student Affairs/Executive Director for Residential Education at the University of Southern California; and Senior Housing Officer, student conduct, and multicultural affairs positions at Loyola University Chicago, Seattle University, and Santa Clara University.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Nash holds a Juris Doctorate and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Notre Dame de Namur University. The recipient of various awards and recognitions, he has been awarded the President’s Award from the Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators and recognized at the WACE annual conference with the John Yarborough – Best of the West Award for his presentation on being an introvert in Student Affairs. In addition, he has been honored as the Outstanding Experienced Professional by the ACPA Commission for Housing and Residential Life, the NASPA Region VI Innovative Program Award, the NASPA Region VI NUFP Champion Award and was most recently named a 2024 NASPA Pillar of the Profession.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Romando is active and holds leadership positions in several professional associations and has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses throughout his career. An avid comic book collector since the age of three, you can often find him speaking with students about his collection of comics and having discussions about how it was illogical for the Star Wars franchise to move away from the Expanded Universe.
