Current Position and Past Experience
Michael Olsen is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Iowa State University’s College of Engineering. He was a post-doctoral research associate at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology before joining the faculty of Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2012.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Olsen earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1992 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1995 he earned his MS and in 1999 his PhD, both from the same institution. He has been the recipient of numerous research and teaching awards, including a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Iowa State University College of Engineering Young Faculty Research Award, and an outstanding teacher award from the University of Illinois.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Michael is married to Jennifer, a school psychologist, and has a three year old son, Derek.
