Current Position and Past Experience
Melissa Marcello is associate vice president of Champlain College Online, where she oversees admissions, marketing and the truED Alliance Program, the school's national workforce development partnership program. Prior to joining Champlain, Marcello taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Purdue University—West Lafayette and Georgetown University, respectively, and held other positions in online program admissions and marketing over the past 10 years.
Marcello is fascinated by the potential for adult higher education to create social capital and social mobility. Her research on popular culture and voting has been featured nationally on a majority of broadcast, print, and digital outlets. Prior to that, Marcello co-published two academic papers based on her master’s thesis, which focused on social networks, small groups, and civic engagement.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Marcello holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of South Florida and an M.S. in Sociology from Purdue University. She’s completed doctoral coursework in Sociology from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to a shift to higher education, her work in marketing, public relations, and strategy has earned top national awards from PRSA and AMA.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Marcello loves everything about Vermont, where she located nearly 10 year ago, including gardening, farm-to-table restaurants, hiking, canoeing in Lake Champlain, and snowshoeing.
