Current Position and Past Experience
Since 2010, Linda Thor has been the Chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District serving California’s Silicon Valley. Prior to that, Thor served for nearly 20 years as the President of Rio Salado College in Phoenix. This came on the heels of her time as President of West Los Angeles College, where she spent four years.
Nationally Thor serves on the board of the League for Innovation in the Community College, the executive council of the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET), the Commission on Lifelong Learning for the American Council on Education, and the board of the Community College Baccalaureate Association. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan appointed her to serve on the Committee on Measures of Student Success.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Thor holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pepperdine University, a master of public administration degree from California State University–Los Angeles, and a doctor of education degree in community college administration from Pepperdine University.
In 2012, Thor was honored with the Morris T. Keeton Award from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and the Distinguished Service Award from the National University Technology Network (NUTN).
Personal Details and Community Involvement
In California she serves on the Joint Venture Silicon Valley Board, NOVA Workforce Board, and Bay Area Council Economic Institute Board among others.
