Ken Gassiot | Associate Vice President for Student Development, Georgia Southern University
Current Position and Past Experience
Ken Gassiot is currently Associate Vice President for Student Development at Georgia Southern University. He is also adjunct faculty in the Higher Education Program. In addition to reporting departments, Ken has responsibility for major university projects/initiatives that partner with Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, the Higher Education Program. He has previously worked in progressive levels of administration across a variety of functional areas within Student Affairs in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia. He serves as a volunteer for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges as an on-site reviewer and has served in elected and appointed regional/national positions in NASPA as well as with the University System of Georgia. In 2017, Ken stepped outside of higher education to serve as a Campaign Director for a US House of Repsresntatives candidate in Houston, TX.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Gassiot holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Research, a Master’s degree in Higher Education and Bachelor’s degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management all from Texas Tech University. In 2021, Ken earned a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida and serves as a peer editor for the Georgia Journal of College Student Affairs. Ken was selected as a Distinguished Visitor with the US Navy in 2018 and flown out to the aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln, for a 2 day/1 night stay to observe the many roles of those who serve in this capacity. He was selected as an Honorary Coach by the Athletics Department at the University of Tennessee in 2013 and as a Cluster Facilitator for LeaderShape in 2016.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Ken loves to stay active and outdoors by jogging, swimming, biking, and being out in nature. He is a big fan of history, learning new things, watching college football, and the beach! He has served as a volunteer on local community boards as well as with United Way. He is currently on the Volunteer Committee for the United Way of the Coastal Empire, which serves a 5 county area in the Greater Savannah area. Ken was selected as a background actor in 2018 for the Walt Disney Studios live action/animated remake of Lady and The Tramp that was released exclusively on Disney+.
