Current Position and Past Experience
Joni Finney is currently the Director of the Institute for Research in Higher Education at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a professor in the Graduate School of Education.

Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania, Finney served as vice-president of the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education. She also held senior policy positions at the California Higher Education Policy Center and the Education Commission of the States.

Finney is a board member for the National Clearinghouse Research Center and Research for Action. She chairs the national selection committee for the Virginia B. Smith Innovative Leadership Award.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Finney received her B.A. from Westminster College in 1978. She completed her M.A. at Bowling Green State University in 1980. In 1990, she finished her PhD in Higher Education at Pennsylvania State University.
