Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Carol Engler, Associate Professor of Educational Administration, joined the
Ashland University faculty in 2002. She is a 30-year veteran of the Akron Ohio Public Schools where she served as a high school administrator, counselor and teacher.
She is founder and former Executive Director of The Ohio Council of Professors of Educational Administration (OCPEA), a consortium of the 24 universities in Ohio that offer master’s degrees and licensure for school principals and superintendents.
In 2012, her interest in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) led her to establish the concept as her academic research agenda. To date, she has designed a graduate level seminar on MOOCs and has served as a consultant to businesses, state governments, and international organizations on the topic.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Engler earned her BA and Master’s degree from the University of Akron. She earned her PhD from Kent State University. She completed post-graduate studies at UC San Diego and also earned a Certificate of Accomplishment for the completion of Coursera’s course on Gamification.
Engler is recipient of The University of Akron's College of Education Outstanding Alumni Award, and is a former winner of the Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year Award, sponsored by The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) and The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). She has also received the Martha Holden Jennings Scholar Award.
