Current Position and Past Experience
Allyson Handley is the Executive Director of the Sanford Education Center at National University, a position she has held since 2014. This followed six years as President of University of Maine at Augusta. Prior to this, she served as the Senior Policy Advisor for Postsecondary Economic Development Initiatives in the state of Kentucky.
Handley has also held positions as the President of Cogswell College and President of Midway College.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Handley earned her BA from the University of Western Ontario, and her MEd and EdD from The Johns Hopkins University. In 2010, Handley was honored by the Johns Hopkins School of Education with a distinguished alumna award.
Handley was named one of the 12 most influential women in Kentucky by Kentucky Monthly Magazine.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Handley currently serves as the Chair of the Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance Board of Directors. She also serves as the Chair of the University of Maine System ABCDE Committee (Adult Baccalaureate Completion/Distance Education). Handley served as the 2010-2011 Chair of the Maine Higher Education Council (2010-2011)
In the community, Handley serves as the Chair of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, and is the Chair Elect of the Maine Women’s Forum (International Women’s Forum).
She is an Advisory Board Member for the Northeast Bank of Maine, and a Board Member of Jobs for Maine’s Graduates, the Augusta Board of Trade, and the Maine Campus Compact. She previously served on the Board of the Maine Women’s Fund
