Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Yuerong Sweetland is Director of Assessment and faculty of Evaluation, Assessment, and Research Methods at Franklin University, teaching in Master’s and doctoral programs. She has been leading assessment in higher education institutions since 2004 and has presented at local, national and international conferences on various assessment topics, such as portfolio assessment, data informed instructional analysis to support student learning, general education assessment, integration of assessment and curricular planning and improvement, comparative analysis between face-to-face and online learning, and curriculum mapping.
She has conducted research and evaluation in diverse areas of teaching, learning, instructional design and assessment and has published in journals such as Assessing Writing, and International Journal of Online Pedagogy and Course Design. Her research interests include alternative credential evaluation, student retention and persistence in higher education.
She contributes to the higher education community by being an active peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and having served as the Vice-Chair of the Knowledge Development Task Force for the Association of Assessment of Learning in Higher Learning (AALHE).
Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Sweetland earned a PhD in Education from The Ohio State University, an MA in English from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), and a BA with double major in English and Economics from Tianjin University (Tianjin, China).
