Current Position and Past Experience
Witt Salley is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus and an Adult and Teen Services Librarian with Montgomery County Public Libraries. Since 2003, he has served higher education in roles spanning administration, consulting, teaching, librarianship, and educational technology. For more than a decade, Salley built and led online learning divisions at multiple institutions, including Clemson University and Ozarks Technical Community College. He also served as Associate Provost for Academic Innovation and Support at Maryland University of Integrative Health, overseeing library services, continuing education, faculty development, and instructional design. Salley has held faculty appointments at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, California State University–East Bay, and Northcentral University. His teaching has included undergraduate courses in writing studies, educational technology, and political science as well as graduate courses in open education strategy, online program administration, and educational research methods.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Salley holds a Doctor of Education in E-Learning from Northcentral University, a Master of Library and Information Science in Public Librarianship from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, a Master of Science in Education (Online Teaching and Learning) from California State University–East Bay, and a Bachelor of Science in Professional Writing from Missouri State University.

Salley’s honors include the Online Learning Consortium’s Bruce N. Chaloux Award for Early Career Excellence in Online Education and an Effective Practice Award (2015); the Distance Learning Administration Conference’s Wagner Award for Distance Education Leadership (2015); and Clemson University’s Ralph D. Elliott Endowed Award for Outstanding Service to Off-Campus, Distance, and Continuing Education (2014). He was also named one of the Center for Digital Education’s Top 30 Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers (2017).

Salley holds the Medical Library Association’s Consumer Health Information Specialization and serves on the Public Library Association’s Digital Literacy Advisory Group and as Secretary of the Maryland Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Panel.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Salley has been married to Leslie, a public-school English teacher and department chair, for 20 years. Both are avid readers and volunteer with the National Book Festival (Library of Congress). Outside of work, they enjoy spending time with their Catahoula Leopard Dog, Dewey, and traveling back to the Ozarks to visit family. They also enjoy exploring the libraries, bookstores, museums, and restaurants across the Washington, D.C.–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) region.
