Current Position and Past Experience
Sue Griffith Smith is the Vice President for Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Sciences at Ivy Tech Community College. Smith has served at Ivy Tech Community College for over 25 years with leadership roles in several departments including the Corporate College, Workforce Development and now in the Academic/Workforce Alignment Division. She has lead major projects and initiatives for the college with expertise in client relationships and partnership development.
Smith represents Ivy Tech in state, national and international manufacturing organizations. Smith has spoken at several educational and technical conferences and hosted numerous national and international events. She has successfully developed two sister college partnerships between Wuxi, China and Huzhou, China and is on the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Board (NACIE).
Smith has worked with manufacturing partners while at Ivy Tech and worked in automotive manufacturing and textiles prior to Ivy Tech. Smith began her career with Ivy Tech building the college’s industrial trades apprenticeships.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Smith earned her BA in Journalism and an Associate’s degree in Business from Indiana University. Smith later earned her Master’s degree from Antioch University, McGregor. Smith is a Master Trainer in Achieve Global and holds numerous certifications in sales, quality, and training programs.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Smith enjoys movies, photography, and writing and has published one novel. With her family and friends, she enjoys all activities that involve beaches and boats.
Professional organizations include board appointments in the American Technical Education Association (ATEA), Transatlantic 3 (TA3), Indiana University’s Manufacturing Policy Initiative (MPI), Manufacturing Institute Advisory Board (MI), National Center for Workforce Education (NCWE) marketing committee, American Society for Quality (ASQ) Enterprise member, and board member for an Indiana ASQ section.
