Current Position and Past Experience
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, economic and workforce development and public service, Sue Ellspermann has served as President of Ivy Tech Community College since 2016. In this capacity, Ellspermann has been instrumental in launching Ivy Tech’s five-year strategic plan, which sets out the institution’s vision to double the number of degrees and certificates granted by 2025.
Prior to joining Ivy Tech, Ellspermann served as Indiana’s 50th Lieutenant Governor. In this capacity, Ellspermann held various roles, including President of the Senate and Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. She oversaw six agencies, including the Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Indiana Office of Tourism, Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and the Office of Defense Development. She served as co-chair for the Blue Ribbon Panel on Transportation Infrastructure and the Rural Broadband Working Group and led agriculture trade missions to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Ellspermann holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Louisville and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.
