Current Position and Past Experience
Melissa Layne is the Associate Vice President of Research and Innovation at the American Public University System (APUS). She also serves as Founding Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Open Education Resources.
Melissa was recently nominated and appointed on the
Open Education Consortium’s (OEC) Board of Directors. The Open Education Consortium is a non-profit, global, members-based network of open education institutions and organizations and represents its members and provides advocacy and leadership around advancement of open education globally.
She is also currently a member on several top tier editorial and advisory boards. Her work has been covered in well over 50 peer-reviewed journal publications, 10 book chapters, presentations, and invited keynotes.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Melissa Layne earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri- Columbia in Curriculum and Instruction. In 2010 she received her Ph.D. in Digital Literacies from Sam Houston State University.
Her research has been awarded by several distance learning organizations including the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), National University Technology Network (NUTN), and the Distance Learning Administration (DLA).
