Current Position and Past Experience
Mark Mitsui is the President of Portland Community College, a position he has held since 2016 and the first Asian American president in the 58 year history of the college. PCC is the largest higher education institution in the state of Oregon, serving 70,000 students annually. Before joining PCC, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges in the US Department of Education where he advanced the Obama Administration’s community college agenda. He has also served as President of North Seattle College and as an administrator in community and technical colleges in Washington State.

He currently serves on a variety of boards including the Governor’s Workforce Talent Development Board, Greater Portland Incorporated, the Portland Business Alliance, the Higher Education Leadership Council for Second Nature, the Community College Baccalaureate Association and the National Asian Pacific Islander Council.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Mark Mitsui holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Western Washington University, and completed a master’s degree and doctoral coursework in Education at the University of Washington. He has been recognized by the Portland Business Journal as a CEO of the Year, by the Chair Academy as an Exemplary Leader and Renton Technical College as Outstanding Faculty.
