Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Leroy Hurt is the Associate Dean for Community Engagement at The University of Alabama’s College of Continuing Studies. His responsibilities include the Bryant Conference Center, the Bryant Museum, Conference Services, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), the UA Gadsden Center, and Continuing Studies Registration Services.
Prior to joining The University of Alabama, he held management and consulting positions in Fortune 500 firms, state government, higher education, and the US military. An officer in the US Army’s Signal Corps, Dr. Hurt was Assistant Chief of Staff/G6 (Chief Information Officer) for the I Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington. Dr. Hurt was a manager and consultant at Sprint, Washington Mutual, and Booz Allen Hamilton as well as director of state IT policy and planning at the Washington Department of Information Services.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Leroy Hurt has a BS in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MA in English from University of Washington. He later earned his MBA from Regis University and an MS in Legal Studies and Public Policy from California University of Pennsylvania. In 2015, Hurt received a Doctor of Transformational Leadership degree in Operational Leadership and Bakke Graduate University.
Dr. Hurt has earned the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute and is Certified in Enterprise IT (CGEIT) with ISACA. Additionally, Dr. Hurt is a Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist (CCWS) with the Corporate Health and Wellness Association.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
In his free time, Dr. Hurt enjoys teaching Nordic walking, a full-body aerobic exercise, to active agers in the community, who know him as the Nordic Walking Guy. He also enjoys spoiling grandchildren with his wife, Cathy.
