Current Position and Past Experience
Julia Jackson-Newsom is completing her 11th year at UNC Greensboro, where she currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategy and Policy. In her role, she oversees the university strategic plan, compliance and policy, and external affairs. During her time at UNCG she has also served as the Director of Research in the School of Education and as the Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Engagement for University Research Projects. Prior to joining UNC Greensboro, Jackson-Newsom was a Senior Research Associate at Tanglewood Research, where she developed and evaluated substance use prevention curricula. She also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at Wake Forest University.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Jackson-Newsom holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Religion from Wake Forest University, where she graduated magna cum laude and was elected into Phi Beta Kappa, The Golden Key National Honor Society, and Psi Chi.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Outside of work, Julia’s family – husband, 19 year-old son, 14 year-old daughter, grandparents, parents, siblings, and beloved cat and dog – keep her busy, entertained, and centered. She enjoys long family walks, long family dinners, and time in the great outdoors.
