Current Position and Past Experience
Joshua Chovanec is currently the Assistant Vice President of Student Systems and University Registrar at Louisiana Tech University. He has dedicated more than nineteen years to the institution, beginning his career as a student worker in the Office of Financial Aid and advancing through progressively senior leadership roles. Over the first decade of his career, Chovanec rose from student worker to Sr. Associate Director of Financial Aid, as well as serving as an adjunct instructor. He later transitioned to the Registrar’s Office as Associate Registrar, where he led major software initiatives and built teams focused on operational efficiency. Within five years, he was appointed University Registrar.

Since then, he has served as a Project Manager for Louisiana Tech’s Workday ERP conversion, a Change Management Lead for the university, and Student Lead for Workday. In his current role as the Assistant Vice President of Student Systems and University Registrar, Chovanec works with the functional side of systems that students use, while serving as a key liaison with IT and collaborating with companies like Modern Campus to deliver integrated, student-centered technology solutions.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Chovanec holds both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Louisiana Tech University.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Outside of his professional role, Joshua Chovanec has a passion for sports cars and planning for the future while also valuing the importance of living fully in the present. His life experiences have shaped a deep respect for others and an appreciation for the diverse perspectives and backgrounds individuals bring to any community. He believes people can learn a lot from each other through conversations and that understanding different personalities are essential to effective communication—an approach that also informs his work across campus and with varied business units. Chovanec was taught at a young age to work hard, both with your hands and your mind. For the past fifteen years, he has also owned and operated a small construction business, allowing him to physically build projects from start to finish. This work provides a creative outlet and is also a family endeavor, with his wife and son actively involved. It also supports his automotive interests, a passion he shares with his wife. In addition, Chovanec is actively engaged in community service. He has volunteered as an Event Coordinator at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP-Georgia) where he created and managed an AFSP Campus Walk at Louisiana Tech University for three years. He also volunteers as Event Director for the Special Olympics where he creates and hosts powerlifting training seminars.
