Current Position and Past Experience
Jacqueline Peña has over 20 years of experience in higher education and has impacted thousands of students while working mainly in Massachusetts, New York, and Florida. She is currently an educational consultant for Jacqueline Peña Consulting, LLC. Prior, she was Dean of Academic Affairs/Dean of Faculty at Miami Dade College. Peña also worked at Florida International University, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and assisting with grants for four years before becoming an institutional effectiveness coordinator. Starting her career first as a writing tutor before transitioning into the classroom, Peña still teaches writing courses and workshops whenever possible.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Peña holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida International University and a graduate certificate in Institutional Research from Florida State University. She also has a master and bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College and the City University of New York – Herbert. H. Lehman College. In 2017, Peña received the Hispanic Woman of Distinction Award for her innovative work in education in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Peña works with non-profits focused on equity issues in education, health and economic development with a focus on small businesses and leads workshops throughout the U.S. in these subject areas. Outside of work, Peña spends her time mainly reading, writing, traveling, and enjoys whatever time she can with friends and family.
