Current Position and Past Experience
Gary Brown is currently Vice President of Student Success, Well-being and Belonging, Hollins University. Prior, he was at Elizabeth City State University for five years. Here he served as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and University Advancement and Executive Director of ECSU Foundation. Prior, he was at North Carolina Central University for 11 years. Some of the roles he served there were Interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Dean of Students and Director of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Brown holds a doctor of philosophy in leadership from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a master of divinity from Shaw University. He also has a master of education from North Carolina State University and a bachelor of arts in history from North Carolina Central University.

Brown is a 2016 40 under 40 honoree of his alma mater, North Carolina Central University and successfully completed both AASCU’s Millennium Leadership Initiative and the University of North Carolina’s Executive Leadership Institute.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Outside of work, Gary enjoys spending time with family, traveling, watching movies, cooking and working with his church to make a difference in the local community.
