Current Position and Past Experience
Edward Abeyta is the Assocaiate Dean for Community Engagement and Director of Pre-Collegiate and Career Preparations Programs at University of California San Diego Extension and is an active supporter of lifelong learning at the workplace, in his community and on the web. He has worked with UCSD for over a decade, starting in 1995 counseling underrepresented students for the Early Academic Outreach Program before assuming the role of Registrar and Director of Academic Services at UCSD Extension. He served as Director of K-16 Programs before moving into his current role.

Education, Honors and Achievements
In 2008 Abeyta was selected for a two-year term as the Staff Advisor to The Regents of the University of California. Furthermore, his involvement in staff diversity and development initiatives earned him recognition from UCSD and the UC Office of the President. San Diego Metropolitan Magazine recognized Abeyta as one of San Diego’s top young business and civic leaders in 2006 with their 40 Under 40 award.

Abeyta earned his B.A. at the University of New Mexico, a M.A. at the University of San Diego and his Ph.D. in Post Secondary Adult Education at Capella University.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Originally from New Mexico, Abeyta and his wife Candi have lived in California for over 20 years and currently reside in San Diego. An active member of his community, Abeyta sits on the board of the San Diego Workforce Advancement Committee and is a founding board member of the San Diego Urban Discovery Charter School.
