Current Position and Past Experience
Courtney Hills McBeth is currently chief academic officer and provost at national nonprofit Western Governors University, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she leads the schools of health, education, technology and business and more than 80 programs.
Previously, McBeth was senior vice president and chief program director at Strada Education Foundation, where she led programmatic work to deploy Strada’s unique combination of philanthropy, impact investments and research aimed at transforming the postsecondary education-workforce landscape.
Prior, McBeth led academic programs, executive education and student services efforts at the University of Utah’s Eccles School of Business, Sorenson Impact Institute and Hinckley Institute of Politics before stepping into the role of special assistant to the president in 2018. She has developed and taught courses in political science, business and higher education at the University of Utah and Purdue University.
Education, Honors and Achievements
McBeth holds a Ed.D. in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania. She also has a master’s degree in education, teaching and learning and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Utah, where she was an All-American soccer player.

When she’s not shaping the future of education, McBeth can be found soaking up the beauty of Utah with her husband and three boys. From biking to skiing and everything in between, McBeth thrives in the great outdoors, embodying the same spirit of adventure she brings to her professional endeavors.
