Cathrael Kazin | Managing Partner, Volta Learning Group

Current Position and Past Experience
Cathrael Kazin, JD, PhD, is Managing Partner of Volta Learning Group, which works with a wide range of clients to foster new models of postsecondary education and credentialing. She served as the founding Chief Academic Officer of College for America at Southern New Hampshire University, and designed its award-winning CBE model, which is grounded in project-centered learning and assessment.

Prior to pioneering College for America at SNHU, Kazin worked at Educational Testing Service, where she served as Executive Director for the Higher Education division and helped develop Next Generation Assessments for 21st-Century Skills. For five years, Kazin worked in Israel as the Head of English at the National Institute of Testing and Evaluation.

Earlier in her career, Kazin served at the US Department of Labor, both as an attorney and as an Acting Special Assistant to Secretary of Labor Robert Reich. She has taught widely and is a former member of the University of Iowa English Department.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Kazin earned her AB with Highest Honors in English from Smith College and her PhD, also in English, from Cornell University. She earned her JD in Law from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was an editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
I am passionate about the power of higher education to transform people's lives and had the privilege of witnessing this daily at CfA. I am excited about continuing this work through Volta Learning Group.
