Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Andrea Keener serves as Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Professional Development at Miami Dade College. Prior, she was Associate Vice Provost of Extended Learning and Dean for the School of Professional and Career Education at Barry University, Miami, Florida, where she held the rank of Professor of Behavioral Sciences. She is a licensed therapist, Master Level Addiction Professional (MCAP), and qualified supervisor in the State of Florida specializing in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, substance abuse, trauma, and co-occurring disorders. Dr. Keener has published in a variety of therapy-related areas, serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Loss and Trauma, and as guest editor for an upcoming special edition of the Journal of Behavioral Sciences on “Anxiety Disorders in Youth.”
For over a decade, she has worked and consulted with mental health professionals and first responders to address anxiety and post-traumatic stress in children, families, and communities.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Keener holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida and a master's and Ph.D. in Psychology from Florida International University.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Born and raised in Germany, Keener maintains a clinical practice in the Fort Lauderdale area, where she also resides with her husband and children.
