Current Position and Past Experience
Javier Miyares is the president of University of Maryland University College (UMUC). He has held this position since 2012.

Prior to joining UMUC, Miyares was associate vice chancellor for Finance and Administration at the University System of Maryland (USM), where he had also served as assistant vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Miyares has also held positions with the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

Education, Honors and Achievements
Miyares earned bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology at UMCP. He completed all the requirements but the dissertation for a doctorate in Educational Measurement and Statistics.
