Current Position and Past Experience
David Schejbal is the President of Excelsior University. He was appointed in 2020, after two yeas as Vice President and Chief of Digital Learning at Marquette University. This followed 11 years as Dean of Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning at the University of Wisconsin-Extension. In this role, Schejbal helped launch the new UW Flexible Option, the first system-wide competency-based, self-paced learning option in the nation. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, Schejbal spent eight years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There he was associate vice chancellor and director of Continuing Education. Schejbal joined UWEX after seven years at Northwestern University, where he served as the Associate Dean of the University College and the Director of Summer Sessions and Special Programs.
He is a member of the executive committee of the Council of Environmental Deans and Directors (CEDD) and served four terms on the board of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).
Education, Honors and Achievements
Schejbal earned his BA from Iowa State University in 1982, and followed it up with a PhD in Philosophy which he earned from the University of Connecticut in 1990.
Schejbal has earned several professional awards including the Exemplary Service Award from the four Summer Session organizations AUSS, WASSA, NAASS and NCCSS; the University of Wisconsin-Extension Chancellor's Award for Excellence; and the University Professional and Continuing Education Association Outstanding Program Award for the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Management.
