Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Robert A. Scott was appointed as the ninth President of Adelphi University in July 2000 and he served in this role until 2015. He is now President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Adelphi University. Previously, he served as President of Ramapo College of New Jersey from 1985-2000 and as a leader of two higher education coordinating agencies (New Jersey and Indiana). Scott is the only person to hold the three top positions in American higher education, head of a public institution, a state coordinating board, and a private university.

Scott is author or editor of more than two hundred essays and articles, as well as 17 books, monographs and chapters. In 2018, his newest book, How University Boards Work, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Scott holds the Bachelor of Arts degree from Bucknell University, the Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Ramapo College of New Jersey.

Scott hosted a regularly televised program entitled, “Exploring Critical Issues,” for which he has earned three “Telly” Awards. In 2003, he won “Outstanding Paper” recognition from the Emerald Literati Club (U.K.) and in 2010 he received an award for weekly editorial writing from the Press Club of Long Island.
