Current Position and Past Experience
William Chismar is dean of Outreach College and interim dean of the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where he is also a professor of information technology management in the Shidler College of Business. Prior to becoming dean, he served seven years as the associate dean for academic affairs at the Shidler College of Business and three years as an adjunct professor in the John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Chismar earned a Ph.D. in industrial administration, an M.S. in system sciences, and a B.S. in philosophy and mathematics all from Carnegie Mellon University. He has been with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa since 1986, specializing in the evaluation and adoption of health information systems. Active in the professional community, in 1999 Chismar founded and continues to chair the Information Technology in Healthcare track at the Hawai‘i International Conference on System Sciences. Currently, he is president elect of the Association of University Summer Sessions.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
In his free time, Chismar enjoys cycling, sailing and cooking.
