Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Rebecca De Leon currently serves as Dean for Dual Credit Programs and School District Partnerships at South Texas College and has been with the institution since 2014. One of her major responsibilities, as Dean, is to provide direction for dual credit initiatives provided to over 16,000 high school students. She maintains the overall sustainability of the Dual Credit Programs by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as the 21 partnering school districts, local organizations and the community to enhance the Dual Credit Programs and overall student experience.
Prior to joining South Texas College, Dr. De Leon served as Assistant Director of Residence Life at The University of Texas-Pan American, now known as The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley. As a former dual credit student, Dr. De Leon firmly believes in the positive impact dual credit has on students, such as increasing persistence and degree attainment by providing high school students an early postsecondary exposure.
Education, Honors and Achievements
De Leon holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. She also has a Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from The University of Texas- Pan American, now known as The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley.
As Dean, Dr. De Leon led South Texas College Dual Credit Programs to be the first in the State to earn the prestigious National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) Accreditation.
