Current Position and Past Experience
From 1998 to 2019, Albert Powell was Director of Learning Technologies within the Division of Continuing Education at Colorado State University. From 2002 to 2009 Powell served as Director of Independent Learning Programs, and from 1998-2002 Powell served as the Director of Distance Education Development.
Prior to moving to Colorado State University, Powell spent 13 years as an Associate Professor and Extension Communications Specialist at Texas A&M University from 1985-1998. From 1980-1985, Powell was an Information Specialist at Washington State University.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Powell earned his BA in Broadcasting and Communications from Washington State University in 1973. In 1979 he earned his Master of Adult and Continuing Education from the same institution. In 1997, Powell earned his PhD in Educational Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University.
He has received a Superior Service Award from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, and awards of Excellence in Electronic Media and in Distance Education & Instructional Design as well as a Pioneer Award from Agricultural Communicators in Education.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Powell is an enthusiast in the areas of music, autocrossing and computer technology, and is a past President of the Washington State University Alumni Association. He plays bass in a classic rock and blues band.
