Current Position and Past Experience
Sumit Bhatia is a seasoned technology strategist and cybersecurity & AI advocate based in Toronto, currently serving as executive director at Westcliff University Canada. In this role, he is advancing Westcliff University’s international expansion and overarching academic mission in Ontario while helping shape the future of technology education. With expertise spanning cybersecurity, AI, design thinking, strategic foresight and ethics, Sumit brings a unique blend of technical depth and policy acumen to his leadership.
Beyond Westcliff, Sumit serves as co-founder and chair of the board at the Center for Designing Change, a Canadian nonprofit dedicated to building the country’s innovation ecosystem and leading the development of Canada’s first open source humanoid robot. Previously, he acted as Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst’s director of innovation & policy at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he led national initiatives at the intersection of cybersecurity, innovation and public policy. Earlier in his career, Sumit led multiple tech startups and spent nearly two decades at Seneca College as program coordinator and professor, mentoring students across business and technology disciplines.

Sumit holds a Master of Digital Media and Emerging Technologies from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Toronto. Personal Details and Community Involvement
Sumit is a parent to two fur babies (cats). He is a voracious reader, an avid cook, a squash player and loves spending time outdoors, be it on his motorcycle riding across the country or camping and hiking in nature.
He also spends time volunteering in mental health advocacy and with initiatives that promote personal development, meditation and conscious living.
