Rob Coyle | Techincal Program Manager of Digital Credentials, 1EdTech
Current Position and Past Experience
Rob Coyle is the technical Program Manager of Digital Credentials at 1EdTech. In this role, he supports the development and implementation of digital credentialing standards and initiatives that advance interoperability, learner mobility, and trusted credential ecosystems across education and workforce sectors.
Rob brings more than two decades of experience in higher education, instructional design, educational technology, and digital learning leadership. Prior to joining 1EdTech, he served in several leadership positions at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), Director of Learning Design and Development, and Learning Design Manager. During his tenure at UMGC, he led teams responsible for online course development, learning innovation, faculty support, and large-scale digital learning initiatives.
Earlier in his career, Rob held instructional design and faculty roles at Cape Fear Community College and Johns Hopkins University, where he focused on instructional technology, course design, and faculty development. His professional experience additionally includes roles in K–12 education, training coordination, and workforce development, providing him with a broad perspective on teaching, learning, and organizational change across educational environments.
Education, Honors, and Achievements
Rob earned an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the Community College of Baltimore County, a Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on secondary education from Goucher College, and a Master of Education with concentrations in in education leadership and education technology administration from Goucher College.
Throughout his career, Rob has built a reputation as a leader in digital learning, instructional design, and educational technology. His work has centered on advancing high-quality online education, supporting faculty and learner success, and driving innovation in digital credentials and learning technologies. Through leadership roles at UMGC and now at 1EdTech, he has contributed to initiatives that strengthen the accessibility, quality, and interoperability of digital learning and credentialing systems.
Rob also represents 1EdTech and the credentials community on several initiatives with partner organizations, including the AACRAO-led Learning Mobility Accelerator, HR Open’s Trusted Career Profile, and IACET’s Learning Ecosystem committee.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Rob has a deep passion for South Asian history, culture, and cuisine and was the focus of his undergraduate studies. Rob enjoys traveling to historic places, reading about history, and learning as much as he can—and loves to bring his large family along to museums. Rob is an ardent supporter of the American Red Cross, having held various volunteer positions in Disaster Services, and regularly donates blood and platelets.
