Current Position and Past Experience
Nariman Farvardin is the seventh President of Stevens Institute of Technology and has been in the position since 2011. An electrical engineer, Dr. Farvardin serves in leadership positions on a number of technology, higher education and business-oriented organizations. He holds seven U.S. patents in data communication, image coding and wireless communication, and has co-founded two companies: Zagros Networks and NovaTherm Technologies.
Previously, he was a faculty member at University of Maryland for 27 years, where he served as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Farvardin holds a Doctor of Philosophy, a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including Academic Leadership Award, Carnegie Corporation of New York in September 2017, Educator of the Year, Research and Development Council of New Jersey in November 2016, Fellow, National Academy of Inventors in December 2013 and CEO of the Year, New Jersey Technology Council in October 2013.
