Lee Ann Nutt | President, Lone Star College-Tomball
Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Lee Ann Nutt serves as President of Lone Star College–Tomball. Since assuming the role in 2015, she has led the institution with a focus on student success, leadership development, and institutional innovation. Prior to becoming president, she served as Vice President of Instruction at Lone Star College–Tomball, providing academic leadership and advancing teaching and learning initiatives.
Dr. Nutt has three decades of experience in higher education leadership. Before joining Lone Star College, she spent over 12 years at North Central Texas College, serving in a variety of executive leadership roles, including Vice President of Instruction, Provost, and Dean of Continuing Education. Earlier in her career, she was Assistant to the Dean of Instruction at South Plains College and served as Director of Education and Public Relations for the New Mexico Health Care Association. In addition to her administrative leadership, Dr. Nutt has taught graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in research methods, statistics, writing, and college success at Ferris State University, Lubbock Christian University, and Texas Tech University.
Beyond her institutional leadership, Dr. Nutt is a nationally recognized speaker and consultant on leadership, grit, and student success. She is the primary author of Complete the Agenda in Higher Education: Challenge Beliefs About Student Success, which reflects her work helping colleges create cultures that empower students to achieve their goals. Under her leadership, Lone Star College–Tomball has gained national recognition for integrating grit into both the curriculum and institutional culture and for the creation of lifePATH®, a four-year program providing academic, social, and career skills to neurodiverse students.
Education, Honors, and Achievements
Dr. Nutt earned all three of her higher education degrees from Texas Tech University, including a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management, a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration. Her doctoral research examined the career satisfaction of female presidents of higher education institutions in the United States.
Throughout her career, Dr. Nutt has been an active leader in higher education and community service. She has served on numerous professional and civic boards and committees, including the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Special Commission on Leadership and Professional Development, which helped develop the third edition of the Competencies for Community College Leaders. She currently serves as Chair of the HCA Healthcare Houston–Tomball Board of Directors and as a member of the Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She has held leadership roles with other regional chambers of commerce and workforce development organizations. Her contributions to student success, community college leadership, and workforce development have established her as a respected voice in higher education nationwide. In 2021, Dr. Nutt was selected as the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. In the same year, she received the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, the organization's most prestigious honor for community college presidents.
