Kin Choi | Vice President of People and Technology, Algonquin College

Current Position and Past Experience
Kin Choi has been the Vice President of People and Technology at Algonquin College since 2024. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the federal public service, having held senior executive roles at Health Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency, the Canada Border Services Agency, Employment and Social Development Canada, and the Department of National Defence, where he served as Chief Human Resources Officer from 2015 to 2021. In these roles, Kin provided leadership across human resources, information technology and corporate affairs, while guiding large organizations through complex governance, legal and regulatory environments.

Following his public service career, Kin joined LifeWorks, which was acquired by TELUS Health in 2023, as Vice President, Public Sector, where he focused on mental health services. He has also served on the Board of Queensway Carleton Hospital. A strong champion of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility, Kin is committed to advancing Indigenous and IDEA initiatives.

Education, Honors, and Achievements
Kin holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Manitoba, an Executive Certificate in Strategy and Innovation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the ICD.D designation through the Directors Education Program at the University of Toronto.

Throughout his career, Kin has received significant recognition for his contributions to the human resources profession and public service, including the HRD and Queen’s University Award for Lifetime Achievement in the HR Industry and the Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee Award for Excellence in Public Service.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Kin has a longstanding passion for mental health and wellbeing and is committed to supporting healthier, more inclusive workplaces and communities. His commitment to community extends beyond his professional work, including service on the Boards of Queensway Carleton Hospital and the OutCare Foundation. Kin has also been involved in basketball for more than 40 years as a player, official and coach. Today, he continues to give back through the sport by coaching an Under-14 boys’ team, combining his passion for basketball with a commitment to supporting young people and building community.
