Current Position and Past Experience
Kevin J. Vaughn is the Dean of UCR Extension, University of California Riverside and has been in the position since 2018. He serves on the Riverside County Workforce Development Board and is actively engaged in workforce initiatives in the region. He is also an internationally recognized authority on Andean archaeology and a Professor of Anthropology at UCR. Vaughn has been in higher education leadership for nearly 25 years. Before joining UCR, he served as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at UCLA Extension from 2015 and spent a decade at Purdue University as an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Vaughn earned both his Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington. He has also received an honorary appointment as a Visiting Professor at Yamagata University in Japan.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Vaughn enjoys time at home with his wife and daughters and is an avid distance runner. This year, he is fundraising on behalf of UCR Extension students with a goal of running 2,026 miles in 2026.
