Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Calvin Nobles serves as Portfolio Vice President and Dean of the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at the University of Maryland Global Campus. He provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership across programs in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analytics, digital forensics, and related fields.

A retired U.S. Navy officer, Dr. Nobles brings extensive experience across military service, higher education, cybersecurity, financial services, and executive leadership. Before joining UMGC, he served as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Information Technology and Management at Illinois Institute of Technology’s College of Computing. Earlier, he was Vice President at Wells Fargo in San Francisco, California, where he worked in identity and access management governance.

Across his career, Dr. Nobles has established himself as a scholar-practitioner who connects cybersecurity, human factors, organizational leadership, workforce development, and academic innovation. His work focuses on preparing learners to solve real-world technology challenges with technical competence, ethical judgment, and leadership capability.

Dr. Nobles holds multiple doctoral degrees spanning cybersecurity, human factors, engineering, and business, including a PhD in Offensive Cyber Engineering, a PhD in Human Factors, and a Doctorate of Business Administration.

In 2025, he received the Doctorate of Business Administration Alumni Leadership Award from Temple University’s Fox School of Business, recognizing his contributions to enhancing higher education in business. In 2026, he received the Malcolm Baldrige Foundation’s Leadership Excellence Award for Cybersecurity, recognizing his contributions to cybersecurity leadership, education, performance excellence, and workforce development.

Dr. Nobles is also an author, researcher, and thought leader whose work emphasizes aligning technical systems with human behavior, organizational realities, ethical decision-making, and workforce needs.
