Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Ailsa Craig joined the Memorial University of Newfoundland faculty in 2006. Now a Full Professor of Sociology, Dr. Craig most recently served as Special Advisor to the President on Continuing Education, and previously held several roles including Interim Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Associate Dean Curriculum and Programs, Head of the Sociology Department, and Undergraduate Coordinator of Sociology. Dr. Craig is also a Co-Founder and Co-Chair at Quadrangle NL, a charitable organization and community centre for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Craig is a Fulbright alumnus who holds a PhD in Sociology from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Creative Writing from York University. Dr. Craig has also been awarded the President’s Award for Outstanding Teaching at Memorial University.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
There is nothing a walk in the forest can’t cure! Dr. Craig cherishes walks with their wife and dog, and spending time with their two young-adult sons. Dr. Craig has a penchant for spy movies, superheroes and detective fiction, and loves to laugh and connect with people.
