Current Position and Past Experience
Sonja Strahl is currently the Director of Learning Solutions at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) where she enhances digital learning experiences and focuses on implementing technology-driven strategies that support diverse student needs while advocating for the integration of essential skills within the curriculum. Her efforts have contributed to the launch of the first skills-based digital credentialing for the MBA program at UMGC.
Prior to her role at UMGC, Sonja was the Senior Director of Instructional Design and Strategy at Academic Partnerships (now Risepoint), where she provided innovative thought leadership around instructional design philosophies, approaches, and strategy, as well as guidance on curricular project plans and execution across multiple university partners and programs.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Dr. Strahl holds a Doctor of Education in Instructional Systems Technology with a minor in Adult Education from Indiana University, a Master of Business Administration in Higher Education Administration with a graduate certificate in Higher Education Administration from North Park University, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Northern Illinois University.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Sonja believes that it is important to step away from screens and schedules in downtime. To this, she likes to recharge through the simple pleasures of working in her garden and yard, reading a great book, and cooking something new, creative, and healthy. Her greatest passion, however, is travel. She finds deep meaning in experiencing the diversity of cultures and countries the world has to offer and hopes to travel more extensively in her future.
