Easing the Financial Burden for People Changing Their Lives Through Continuing Education

Toronto, Ontario – June 1, 2010

Destiny Solutions, the leading provider of administrative software for continuing and professional education, announced today that applications are open for the 2010-2011 Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship.

Destiny Solutions launched The Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship Award in 2008 as a tribute to Dr. Mary Cone Barrie (1945-2009), the company's first customer, and the person who inspired Destiny Solutions to do great things. She was the Director of the School of Continuing Studies at the University of Toronto and remains known for her attentiveness to student needs and a devotion to her instructors and staff.

The Mary Cone Barrie scholarship is available to any student currently enrolled in a course or program through the continuing education division of any American or Canadian accredited college or university.

It is a yearly program that was established to recognize the efforts of learners who are improving their lives through continuing education and workforce development. We understand how difficult it can be to embrace the concept of lifelong learning, to go back to school with a full time job and a family. We are proud that we can contribute even a little bit to help make life a little easier.

When Should I Apply?

Applications are due by July 30, 2010.

When Are the Scholarships Awarded?

Recipients of this award will be selected in August 2010 by a committee that includes Andy and Jesse Barrie, husband and daughter of Dr. Mary Cone Barrie. Winners will be announced in September 2010 and will be contacted directly by Destiny Solutions.

"We value the critical role CE plays in enabling millions of people to transform their lives during these turbulent times. This scholarship was created to help make CE more accessible to those who need it the most," says Shaul Kuper, CEO at Destiny Solutions.

The Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship is unique. While there are a large number of financial aid options available to full-time students, this scholarship is exclusively devoted to continuing education students. This distinction is especially important in the current economic environment, where many people have recently been laid off or struggle to balance work and school.

Last year's winners are both working toward positive changes in their lives–changes that are within reach thanks to the Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship. Jonathan Lambert, one of last year's winners, comments, "Winning the scholarship meant I could finally focus my attention on my schooling and my son because I knew my tuition was covered. That meant everything to me and my family."

For Masoudeh Kazemiashtiani, last year's other award winner, winning the Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship meant taking the first step toward achieving her educational goals in Canada. "My goal is to get back to the position of where I was in Iran. This scholarship will help me get the education I need to achieve this goal."

The deadline to submit applications for this year's Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship is 5:00pm EDT on Friday July 30, 2010. Winners will be announced in September via a press release posted on Destiny Solutions' website.
