Current Position and Past Experience
Serena Wong is currently Manager of Business Systems for the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University and has been serving in this position for nearly five years.
Prior to joining Ryerson, she spent the previous decade working for several Fortune 500 companies including Deloitte, Xstrata, and Glencore in various roles such as Manager of Collaboration and Architecture, IT Infrastructure Manager, Business Relationships Manager, and Senior Programmer Analyst.
Serena’s diverse working experience includes projects for both the public and private sector, delivering custom solutions in the web and collaboration space, as well as managing mission critical systems used by operations across the globe.
She’s most passionate about delivering solutions that are fit-for-purpose and create an immediate impact to the audiences they serve – whether that’s making enrolment easier for a student population or providing solutions that take away pain points for staff.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Serena holds a Bachelor of Mathematics, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Combinatorics and Optimization from the University of Waterloo.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Serena loves travelling to explore food, markets, art, archictecture, stand-up comedy, and festivals around the world and to practice her terrible French and Spanish. She’s also a foodie who enjoys trying out new restaurants and food, so a recent travel highlight was food tour of Turkey where she got to cook with local chefs, try dishes that are hard to find in Canada, and sample her way through the gorgeous fruit, nuts, and cheeses at a local food market.
