Current Position and Past Experience
Matt Thornton has worked in higher education for 17 years. He is currently Associate Vice President of Student Technology Experience at Southern New Hampshire University where he has worked for 9 years. Other roles he served at SNHU include Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Advising, Assistant Vice President of Student Success and Senior Director of Student Success. Prior to SNHU, he was the Admissions Coordinator at Great Bay Community College. He was also an Associate Dean of Academic Advising, the Registrar, and an Academic Advisor during his early years at Hesser College.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Thornton holds a Doctor of Science in Information Systems (ABD) from Dakota State University. He also has Master of Business Administration from Kaplan University, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Marymount Manhattan College.
Thornton was also co-author on a conference presentation titled, “Levaging Online Learning Communities to Drive Student Success” that won Best-In-Track at the Online Learning Consortium International Conference in 2015 for the Student Services and Learner Support track.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Thornton and his husband, Stephen, are new parents raising their 11 month old daughter, Luna. He enjoys back-yard farming activities such as gardening, beekeeping, and raising chickens. In the little spare time he has left, he enjoys playing guitar and piano, drawing and sacred geometry, and hiking the mountains of New Hampshire.
