Marie Cini | Senior Academic Innovation Fellow, University of Maryland University College

Current Position and Past Experience
Marie Cini is the Senior Academic Innovation Fellow at the University of Maryland University College. She took on this role in 2017, and in this capacity works on developing new academic models for the future.

Cini stepped into this role after four years as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at UMUC, a position she took on after serving in an acting capacity as Provost and Chief Academic Officer for a year. Prior to that, Cini spent four years as Vice Provost and Dean of the Undergraduate School, overseeing 32 academic programs and numerous certificates.

Before moving to UMUC, Cini served as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the City University of Seattle for two years. Cini has also worked as an administrator at Thomas Edison State College, the University of Maryland, Duquesne University and La Roche College.

In addition to her work at UMUC, Cini served as the 2016 and 2017 President of the Board of the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), the premier online learning association focused on learning quality.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Cini earned her BS from the Pennsylvania State University in 1979. In 1984 she earned her MS in Counselor Education from the same institution. In 1994, Cini earned her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
Marie and her partner, Andrea, enjoy traveling and kayaking, and just adopted a new 75-pound puppy named Wall-E from a rescue group.
