Current Position and Past Experience
Since 1996, Lisa Malat has served as the Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Barnes & Noble College. Malat provides strategic direction and executive oversight to over 770 campus stores in the areas of consumer and corporate marketing, learning and development, and in-store and eCommerce strategies and operational efficiencies. Before joining Barnes & Noble College, Malat served for 13 years at Macys in senior positions including Store Operations, Process Re-Engineering Distribution, Customer Service and Learning and Development. Malat has a deep fascination with delivering incredible retail experiences and is passionate about understanding customer behaviors and designing the kind of innovations that create loyalty and stronger connections to the Barnes & Noble College brand.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Malat earned her bachelor’s degree from University at Buffalo in New York.
Malat was also named one of JWI's Women to Watch in 2010.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Malat is the mother of two outstanding daughters and has been married to her husband, Glen, for 32 years. An avid reader, she’s currently reading Susan Faludi’s In the Dark Room, a novel which explores the meaning of identity in the modern world.
