Larenda Mielke | Associate Provost of SMU Global and Online, Southern Methodist University

Current Position and Past Experience
An international leader in professional, online, and executive education, Larenda provides university-wide leadership to prioritize, coordinate, support and grow continuing and non-traditional education. She oversees continuing and professional education programs, new online initiatives partnering with SMU’s academic schools and colleges, and the Masters of Science in Data Science (MSDS). Additionally, she works with the new Continuing Education Program Council (CEPC), comprising the deans of academic units and chaired by the provost. Using the latest technological advances in teaching and learning and harnessing the synergies of a university-wide effort, including those attending SMU online and at a distance, Larenda and her team advance the university’s upward and outward trajectory while driving cutting-edge excellence and leadership.

Prior to taking on her current role, Mielke has served as Senior Director of Executive Education at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Assistant Dean for Executive Education and Career Services at UWM, and Associate Dean for the Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School Executive MBA program with Fudan University in Shanghai.

Education, Honors and Achievements
Mielke holds an Executive MBA from Washington University in St Louis’s Olin Business School, an MA in Cross Cultural Education from Wheaton College Graduate School, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana State University.

Personal Details and Community Involvement
An avid fan of exercise, Larenda enjoys running, power walking, waterskiing, and long walks around White Rock Lake in Dallas. During the warmer months, she can be found gardening both edible and appealing plant life. She loves cooking for her family and friends whenever she has time. She and her husband are two of those rare people who own several real estate investment companies, and can still call those initiatives fun—at least sometimes!
