Current Position and Past Experience
Dr. Judith Sebesta serves as the Founding Executive Director of the Institute for Competency-Based Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Before stepping into her current position, Sebesta took on many different roles within the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board including the Director of Innovation. Earlier in her career, Sebesta was a Professor of Theater and taught at the University of Missouri and University of Arizona. Her article
“A topography of Texas competency-based education today” recently appeared in the Journal of Competency-Based Education.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Sebesta earned her B.A. from Austin College and her M.S. from Florida State University. Sebesta earned her Ph.D. and holds a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Texas at Austin.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
When she is not leading competency-based research and program development in Texas, Sebesta enjoys cheese and beer tasting, working on her nine-acre farm, and spending time with her spaniel mix Dinah, donkey Hank, and miniature horse Nashville Brewers Evening’s Ecstasy (aka Little Evie).
