Current Position and Past Experience
James Fountain is the Executive Director for Competency Based Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Prior to joining TAMU-Commerce in 2018, Fountain served as the State Career Readiness Officer for Armed Forces Services Corporation AFSC. He has 12 years’ experience in Higher Education and has served as a faculty-member, Campus Dean, and Campus Director of Academic Affairs. James has a distinguished background in Competency Based Education which started with direct assessment and helped launch various types of CBE programs while serving at private colleges and universities. He has unique insights to various accreditation initiatives as he has led or participated in 18 different accreditation processes at both the institutional and programmatic level. He is currently an Ed. D. candidate at Nebraska Methodist College.
Education, Honors and Achievements
James Fountain holds an M.Ed in Educational Leadership and Administration and a B.A. in History from the University of Oklahoma. He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta (National Historical Honor Society)
Personal Details and Community Involvement
James has volunteered for almost 20 years for the Boy Scouts of America and enjoys spending time in nature, reading and mentoring youth.
