Current Position and Past Experience
Frank Swanzy Essien Jr. is the Strategy Officer for Research at Lumina Foundation. He is responsible for Lumina’s work around identifying and synthesizing existing research and evidence as well as commissioning new research to inform Lumina and the field. Prior to this, Frank was a strategy officer on Lumina’s Learning Infrastructure team, working on projects related to competency-based education, including the launch of Competency-Based Education Network.
Prior to working at Lumina, he served as manager for measurement and evaluation at USA Funds, where he was responsible for assessing the social impact of the organization’s philanthropic actions.
Education, Honors and Achievements
Frank Swanzy Essien Jr. earned his BA in Economics and Business Administration with a minor in Mathematics from Westminster College and a Master’s degree from Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Personal Details and Community Involvement
Frank Swanzy Essien Jr. lives in McCordsville, Indiana, with his wife, Nana, and their two children, Madelyn and Frankie. Outside of work, Frank enjoys spending time with his family, playing table tennis and trying different kinds of food.
